ND E-Series Electric Fin Stabilizer

Naiad Dynamics Model E-525 Electric Stabilizer

NAIAD® INTRODUCES NEW FAMILY OF ELECTRIC-POWERED FIN STABILIZATION SYSTEMS

SHELTON, Connecticut, Nov. 18, 2014 – Naiad Dynamics, an international manufacturer of ship motion control technologies, today announced the introduction of the first products in a new line of electric-powered stabilizer systems designed specifically for use on ships operating both AtSpeed® and AtRest®.

“These new stabilizers are a modern refinement of electric-powered stabilizers Naiad first developed for naval applications in 2008,” said John Venables, CEO of Naiad Dynamics. “We are now introducing these systems to the recreational and commercial marine markets alongside our complete range of proven hydraulic stabilizers to provide a choice for designers and builders who may prefer not to use hydraulics.”

The initial model E-525 is available with a 7.5 or 11 kW AC servo motor drive, and is designed for fin sizes ranging from 1.0 to over 3.5 square meters for vessels typically 35 to 50 meters in length. The company will roll out additional electric-powered systems through 2015 and 2016.

Naiad’s electric stabilizer eliminates the entire hydraulic system, reducing the number of installed components and the system’s overall complexity and weight, as well as eliminating installation costs associated with interconnecting fluid lines, all with no sacrifice in power and performance. Naiad’s electric servo motor-actuator design generates the same amount of force as two hydraulic cylinders used in an equivalent hydraulic stabilizer model.

Like all Naiad fin stabilizers, these new products are built with the highest-quality materials and workmanship. Major components are machined in-house to U.S. military standards in Naiad’s ISO 9001:2008 certified factory. Naiad systems have an unmatched reputation for durability in the tough marine environment, providing long product life with very low maintenance and total costs of ownership.

The systems’ well-proven heavy-duty tapered roller bearing assemblies are greased for life and sealed at the factory for easy installation, low maintenance and trouble-free operation.

A key safety feature of Naiad’s electric fin stabilizer design is the ability to center the fins manually and lock in place when the stabilizer is not being operated. Other key features include Naiad’s exclusive DATUM™ closed loop digital control system with adaptive self-tuning capability operating on a CANbus distributed network.

Naiad Dynamics Achieves ISO 9001:2008 Certification

Naiad Dynamics, an international manufacturer of ship motion control technologies, has received International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001 quality certification at its Connecticut facility.

The Quality Management System Certification from Orion Registrar, Inc. confirms that Naiad Dynamics meets the requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 standard.

“Even though Naiad Dynamics has more than 70 years experience supplying flight-critical aerospace parts to U.S. military-quality specifications, including MIL-I-45208, this new certification is an important step in our commitment to implement an ISO-compliant management system at our primary production facility in Connecticut,” said John Venables, president of Naiad Dynamics. “Furthermore, we’re currently in the process of achieving the more stringent AS 9100 Quality Certification, which is particularly focused on rigorous aerospace quality requirements.”

The certification ensures that the company’s design, manufacturing, assembling, testing, installation and service procedures meet the highest quality standards. Additionally, the certification applies to Naiad Dynamics’ motion control, maneuvering, propulsion, steering and associated equipment and systems, including electro-hydraulic power packs and controls, as well as precision and production machining and manufacturing for all industries. Naiad’s UK facilities are also ISO 9001:2008 certified.

“Our production staff and overall plant practice the highest standards of processing procedures and control,” Venables added. “Our ship stabilization products and systems for commercial and military vessels and large pleasure yachts are manufactured using the same personnel, machinery and processes we use for General Dynamics Electric Boat Division nuclear submarine parts; Lockheed Martin Sippican Division naval ship-based missile defense system parts; operating room medical parts; and United Technologies, Sikorsky Aircraft Division helicopter parts.”

The ISO 9001:2008 standard gives an organization the opportunity to increase the value of its activities and continually improve performance. Placing great emphasis on the connection between quality management systems and organizational processes, as well as the encouragement of a natural progression toward improved organizational performance, the standard directs users to the achievement of business results, including the satisfaction of customers and other interested parties.

S@A - Not Just For Superyachts

M/Y Independence, a 55 ft. (17m) Sturier yacht is one of the first vessels of her size to be equipped with a Naiad Stabilization At Anchor system. The compact, but powerful Model 320 stabilizer was selected for this project, because it was designed specifically to bring S@A capability to yachts of this size range.

Independence is a demonstration yacht owned by Mastervolt and Whisper Power with contributions by other marine suppliers including Naiad Dynamics. The yacht is traveling throughout Europe and the stabilizer is being used extensively both underway and at rest with excellent results. Details of the vessel and her excursions can be found at the yacht's website: www.my-independence.eu
